Mr. Robert Pearson Jr. was born on Oct. 21, 1929, in Emporia. His mother was Gertrude Banks and his stepfather was Jacob Banks.

Robert was raised in Emporia where he attended and graduated high school. He found early on that he had a passion for large trucks. Many of his early jobs involved driving for various small companies in the area. He later moved to the Petersburg area where he met India Raines Cheives. They were married in August 1965 and remained together for 28 years until her passing in October 1993. For many years, he continued to drive for various trucking companies in the Petersburg/Richmond areas and occasionally interstate runs along the east coast. But it was with his wife that he was able to fully realize he greatest dream of establishing Pearson's Trucking Service. As the years passed and retirement came closer he always wanted to remain active. He worked on the janitorial staff at Virginia State University for four years, then later moved on to work for Seward Luggage for a few years until he officially retired in January 2013. Even retirement didn't slow him down. He still enjoyed spending time with his friends' playing cards (Bid Wiz and Spades), attending dances, cookouts, and going on bus trips to the casinos.

Robert Pearson was a kind, considerate and generous person. Always asking others if they needed help with anything and meaning it when he asked. He loved to be with people and never met a stranger no matter where he went. His presence will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by: his wife, India Pearson; mother & father, Gertrude and Jacob Banks; sister, Dorothy Pitt; stepdaughter Hibernia Dyson and stepson, Calvin Cheives.

He is survived by: two stepsons, Robert Cheives and Tyrone Cheives (wife, Lucy Cheives); one stepdaughter, Judy Dabney (husband, Gerard Dabney); one sister, Tawanda Grant (husband, Dexter Grant); grandchildren, Larry Dyson Sr., René Dyson Derricott, Calvin Dyson, Marquel Forbes, Gerard Dabney, Christopher Dabney, Chelsi Sheppard, Robbin Epps, Kimberly Dennis, Tonia Alexander, Sonya Saunders, and T.J.
