Albert Shakan Obituary

SHAKAN, ALBERT A. SR., 86, of Mendon Rd. passed away Tuesday at home peacefully surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Florence M. (Breault) Shakan. Born in Central Falls he was the son of the late George and Samia Shakan. He resided in Cumberland for the past 54 years previously living in Central Falls. He was the proprietor of the Hillside Café, also known as Shakan's on Manville Hill Rd., Cumberland for 49 years. He was a WW II and Korean War, U. S. Army veteran. Mr. Shakan was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, Cumberland and St. Basil the Great Church, Lincoln. Besides his wife he leaves three children: Debbie A. Mitchell and her husband, Charlie: Albert A. Shakan Jr. and his wife, Robin, and Lori Shakan all of Cumberland. One sister, Olga Caswell of Cumberland and six grandchildren: Jennifer Shakan of Maryland; Jason Lee of Lincoln; George Shakan, Kendra Shakan, Keri Mitchell and Emilie Mitchell all of Cumberland and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Basil the Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln. Burial will follow in St. Basil the Great Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
