CATALANO, SAVERIO born in Providence, RI on March 2, 1932, age 83, died peacefully in his sleep in Newport, RI, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, two days shy of his 62nd wedding anniversary. He resided in Narragansett, RI and Treeborough Farms, West Hartford, CT, and formerly Newington, CT. He was a previous parishioner of St. Veronica Chapel and Church of St. Peter Claver. Cat honorably served fourteen years in the U.S. Air National Guard. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School '49, where he was Social Committee Chairman, and attended Emerson College, specializing in Radio/TV Broadcasting. In his youth, he hosted a Big Band FM radio program. He enjoyed being a longtime member of Bonnet Shores Beach Club. Pat found joy throughout his working career; his talented life was enriched by many personal and professional associations. A self-made man, he managed several corporate ventures with his true expertise being land development, principally in Florida. He successfully rose to Vice President/National Salesman of ITT Palm Coast; initially a top executive with Gulf American Land Corp. and Cape Coral Inc. Afterwards, Pat teamed with baseball Hall of Famer, Ted Williams, to market a Floridian community. Saverio selflessly guided his children through their business endeavors. Admired for his sense of humour, intellect and kindness, he gladly opened his homes for entertainment. He was an avid cook, music aficionado, and golf enthusiast. Among his favorite travel destinations were Rome, London, and Majorca. His finest moments embraced his family. He encouraged them to espouse a positive mental attitude. In his lifetime, he was fondly regarded an active member and generous contributor to charitable and civic causes. Saverio lived the American Dream. Son of the late Gaetano and Josephine (Mancini) Catalano, Sonny's sister Florence D'Alessio predeceased him and he is survived by sister, Shirley Renzi. Saverio leaves his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Olga (Pietrantonio) Catalano; his daughter Helene C. Fusco, her husband Angelo of West Hartford, CT; and his son Robert A. Catalano, his spouse Carol of Simsbury, CT. Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Michael S. Fusco, Christopher M. Catalano, Nicholas J. Catalano, and Lauren M. Catalano, along with dear relatives and friends. Heartfelt appreciation is duly extended to blessed clergy, also to the memory diagnostic and treatment of Dr. Brian R. Ott, Brown University, to compassionate physicians, clinicians, and staffs of Newport Hospital, GENTIVA Hospice, to loyal family caregiver Susan Bullock, along with Dr. Robert O. Cicchelli, the administration and "The Best Friends Approach" model of care implemented by the entire skilled Newport community of Village House.
