JOHNSTON, DONALD R., 80, of Arthur Street, died Monday evening, September 9, 2013 at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jane E. (Holt) Johnston. They were married fifty years. Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late John W. and Mary L. (O'Neil) Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a revenue agent for the State of Rhode Island, Division of Taxation, for thirty-five years, retiring in 1996. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. An avid sports fan, he was active in the Darlington American Little League and the Pawtucket Crusaders. He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Church, and a member of the Rhode Island Right to Life Committee. In addition to his wife Jane, he leaves two sons, John G. Johnston and Michael W. Johnston and his wife Mary; two daughters, Michelle L. McCann and her husband John and Jennifer L. Johnston; a sister, Brenda Cartwright; and five loving grandchildren, Scott McCann, Erin Johnston, Reilly Johnston, Jack McCann and Brendan McCann. The funeral will be held Saturday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Church, 193 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Friday, 4 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rhode Island Right to Life Committee, P.O. Box 28285, Providence, RI 02908 in his memory will be appreciated. Your father and husband will surely be missed. He was always very kind to us kids growing up, doing his share of driving us all over town! I still remember sitting in the living room with him watching Red Sox games on those hot summer days! Rest in peace Mr. Johnston!
