Ernest Guglielmo Obituary

GUGLIELMO, ERNEST A. SR., 89 of Providence passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the loving and devoted husband of Jessie (Franchetti) Guglielmo for 62 years. Born in West Warwick, he was the son of the late Domenic and Giuseppina (Colletta) Guglielmo and loving brother of the late Anthony Guglielmo, Margaret Dandeneault, Vincent Guglielmo, Antonetta Di Rocco, Pasquale Guglielmo and Thomasina DiMuccio. Besides his wife Jessie, he is survived by his two sons, Ernest and David, his cherished grandchildren, Domenic and Donna and his beloved great-grandsons Anthony and Nicholas. He interrupted his college education in 1942 to enlist in the US Army. He was a World War II Army Veteran proudly serving in Germany and France. Upon his return he completed his Bachelors Degree in Education, graduating from Providence College in 1946, and receiving his Masters Degree from Rhode Island College in 1954. He embarked on a career as a Providence school teacher retiring after 36 years. He was past President and Treasurer of the RI American Federation of Teachers/Retired, a Humanities Teacher at the Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center in North Providence, Eucharistic Minister and Secretary of the Holy Name Society at St. Ann's Church, Providence, and is a member of the American Legion, Providence Post #56. His funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30am from the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Ann Church, Hawkins St., Providence. Visiting hours Saturday (MORNING) 9-10:30am. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. www.marianiandson.com

i miss him he was funny and loved me

I was the secretary at St Ann's rectory and Ernie use come to the recory on Mondays to count the budgets frm Sat & Sun. He was a sweet & wonderful man. He loved his family as he did his church. I am so sorry to hear of his loss.

Mr Guglielmo was my homeroom teacher at Hope High (1966-1969). I brought the newspaper to school everyday and leave it for him. What a great guy and teacher.
