Emily Otrando

OTRANDO, EMILY HALLORAN 10, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 22, 2014 at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Brian and Michaela (Halloran) Otrando of Cumberland. Emily was a sweet, loving, beautiful child who found joy in life and nature. She was the best big sister to her brother Nathan whom she loved to play legos with and play outdoors. She loved all animals especially horses and dolphins. She took joy in playing with her dog Lola and her fish Rainbeau. Every visit to the pet store with Grammy resulted in another request for a new pet. She was a Girl Scout and an enthusiastic artist. She loved to write stories and hoped to publish a book one day. She was a voracious reader and her favorite books were about fairies, American Girl and Harry Potter. Her favorite Harry Potter character was Luna Lovegood and she aspired to grow her hair as long as Luna's. She loved going to the beach with her cousins, aunts, uncles and Nana and Grandpa where she loved to go swimming and crabbing. She was excited about sailing to Newport on the family sailboat where her favorite places were the arcade and fishing on the docks. She always loved parties and family gatherings. She was a student at Community School in Cumberland, where she was in the 5th grade. She loved her teachers and made many friends. She had a tremendously loving heart and touched everyone she met. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her younger brother, Nathan Otrando; paternal grandmother, Ellen McGill (Grammy) of Warwick; maternal grandparents, William and Eileen Halloran (Grandpa and Nana) of Narragansett; paternal step-grandmother, Patricia Otrando (Grandma Patti) of West Warwick; aunts and uncles, Sheila and Richard McPartlin of South Kingstown, Colleen and Kevin Villandry of Greenville, Aileen and Jay DeArruda of Portsmouth, Julie Brunelle of Warwick, Andrew and Stephanie Sleister of Warwick and Heather Otrando of New York and her cousins, Patrick and Jack McPartlin, Katie and Michael Villandry, Morgan Sleister, Chris Costa and Artie Brunelle III. She was the granddaughter of the late Richard William Otrando (Papa). Relatives and friends are invited to a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10 AM in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Visiting hours from Friday, September 26, 2014 from 4-8 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.
