Madeline Potts Obituary

POTTS, MADELINE, GRACE EGLESTON
born April 11, 2000 at 9:47 am at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence RI, died on the soccer field that she so loved on September 23, 2017 during the second half of her last game due to an unexpected brain abnormality, and again in our arms at Hasbro Children's Hospital on September 24, 2017 at 12:21 am, surrounded by the love of both of her parents, while many in the community so patiently waited downstairs with prayers of love and hope. She is survived by her father Daniel John Potts, her mother Stephanie Ann Egleston Potts and her younger sister Julia Rose Egleston Potts, her grandparents John and Nancy Potts, Donald and Patricia Egleston, and an innumerable number of very special Aunts, Uncles, cousins, family, friends and teammates. Maddie was passionate about so many things, but mostly about helping empower others to be their personal best, in a way that made you realize she wasn't even trying to do so. It was never about Maddie, always about those around her. She loved her sister who was her very best friend, and we would often laugh that Julia was the very best gift we could have given her. Most of the time, she would agree. Not only was Maddie captain of and passionate about soccer, she was equally passionate about going into her second year as Captain of the Chariho Lacrosse team. She grew to love indoor track, only starting it as she wanted to keep in shape between her other dedicated sports seasons. She loved and was gifted in art and photography. She enjoyed her free time jumping in the waves at the beach, skiing with her closest friends who she called sisters, Elizabeth and Caroline Peters and Lauryn Rose Hall, and just relaxing and spending time with her family on movie nights and cuddling with her pups, Cooper and Remington, on her favorite chair. She always, always had a smile. Though she was cut short in her college search, she loved our multiple visits to Bridgewater State University and Roger Williams University, and had hopes to play Division III soccer. Though her coaches thought she could likely succeed at a "Higher Level", she was specific in saying "I don't want to just train with a college soccer team, I want to be a starting player." We are certain she would have succeeded, as she had every time before. Her recent and ever growing interest was Forensic Science and she had considered studying this in college. It would be another way to give back to people in helping solve their most terrifying mysteries. Also, it was the only class she ever said "I LOVE it!" when asked. We often joked that she was ultimately going to major in Soccer and minor in Lacrosse as she had many local and state recognitions of both. A special thank you to her coach, Ms. Brittney Godbout, for seeing from day one, the beauty and drive, both inside and out, of such a special angel. Many charities are being planned; currently donations can be made to Chariho Sports Boosters, Attn: Mr. Michael Shiels, Athletic Director, Chariho High School, 455 A Switch Road, Wood River Junction, RI 02894. Thank you for your continued love and prayers of support.
Maddie's family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 12 to 8pm at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 1pm at the Dunn's Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Rd. Rt.1 Westerly, RI. We are so very sorry for the monumental loss of your beloved Maddie. Words could never express the depths of your sorrow. Please know there are people praying everyday for strength and courage for your family. My heart is broken for your family and I never met Maddie. She certainly was an Angel on Earth and now shares in the Resurrection of Jesus, as a true Angel in Heaven. My prayer for you all is that you feel Maddie's spirit so much that even though you can't see her physically, you are forever wrapped in her loving spirit. May God Bless her Soul and May Jesus Hold You All in the palm of his hands. My deepest condolences. Her love is everlasting and will transcend between both worlds.

Sorry to hear of Maddie's passing. We found out last Sunday from my daugthter, Lynne. My grandchildren, Sydney and Drew DeNoncour go to Chariho School. Sydney is on the Jr. Varisity Volley Ball and Drew plays Soccer for the Middle School. We went Monday night to watch both Volley Ball games and then went outside to the Candle Light Vigil for Maddie. It was so humble to see all the different teams, in their uniforms, their parents, many friends, and the candle lights burning in respect for Maddie. I feel so sad in my heart to hear of a lovely young girl's passing and we will always keep her in our prayers and thoughts forever and also for the family.---(I will pray for her every night when I say my rosary; and also, I put her name on the pray-line when I went Adoration on Tuesday at my church St. Philips-Greenville, R.I.--(I tell Jesus to take Maddie into his loving arms and welcome her into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping, nor pain, but the fullness of peace and joy with Jesus and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. AMEN! ) GOD BLESS!

My daughter, Sydney, played lacrosse with Maddie and adored her. She credits Maddie with teaching her how to play the game. She loved Maddie and has been speaking of her strength, kindness and patience while always being an exceptional role model to the other players on her team and her friends. Sydney truly looked up to her.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers every day. The community and especially Maddie's friends have come together to support one another through this incredibly sad time in a way that is such a blessing to all.

She touched so many in her life and her influence and values will live on in all who knew her.

To the Potts Family:

Please accept my heartfelt condolences at the loss of your precious daughter. Maddie embodied the qualities every parent would wish for their child. In a word, she was extraordinary.

While words cannot convey how difficult her passing means to the legions of people whose lives she touched, her remarkable legacy and illuminating smile will always remain in our hearts, minds, and souls.

Thank you, Maddie, for the gifts of your humanity, which you so lovingly shared with everyone. Because you touched our lives so profoundly, you have made us all of us better people. The Chariho community will never forget you.

Forever, #11, may you rest in peace.

Respectfully,

To the Family of Maddie Potts: What an honor to have been blessed with such a wonderful child who gave joy to so many in her brief life. Although her life was brief...it seems like she accomplished much in living life to her fullest in all she did. She has left behind a legacy of how to have a goal and just do it; of how to treat others as you would want to be treated; of how to love family and friends which in return makes you feel much love. As parents you have to be applauded for the wonderful care you gave to this child.
May your faith help you in accepting what has happened. None of us has the answers as to WHY?? As long as you remember... she will always be with you in your minds and in your hearts. My sincere condolences to all. A soccer loving grandmother. God Bless.
