Kenneth Sherman

SHERMAN, KENNETH A., 93, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 23, 2013 at home in Suffield, CT. He was born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Solomon H. and Clara A. (Frawley) Sherman. He was predeased by his sisters Frances Sherman and Charlotte Ledoux. Kenneth leaves his wife of 73 years Emily Rose (Stamp) Sherman, his daughter Donna Labbie and her husband Charles, his son David Sherman and his wife Kathleen. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michelle (Labbie) Ditmer and husband John, Stephen Sherman and wife Kristen, John Sherman and wife Katia, Laura Sanford and husband Timothy. Also 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ken served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was trained and served as an air traffic controller. This led to his career as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He started his career at the Hillsgrove Airport in RI and worked there many years but also filled positions in Boston and Newark, NJ. Ken enjoyed all sports and was always a strong competitor. His initial love was baseball and he played on Rhode Island amateur teams in the 1930's and 1940's. He was an avid golfer for many years and later turned to tennis which he continued to play into his mid 80's. Perhaps Ken's greatest love, after his family, was the horse races, which he started attending as a teenager in Pascoag, RI and then visiting all the tracks in New England. Once retired and spending winters in Florida he enjoyed all the tracks in South Florida. Visitation Saturday, September 28, 2013, from 11-12 noon in TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt.44) Greenville, followed by a service at 12noon. Burial will be private.
