PLIMPTON, FRANCIS TAYLOR PEARSONS, JR. age 86, of Ormond Beach, FL, formerly North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2014. TP was a graduate of Amherst College. He served as an officer in the Navy during the Korean War. He was employed at Brown University as an administrator during the construction of the medical school. Subsequently TP had a career as a landscape architect working together with his wife Susan. A lifelong rower, he was member of the crew at Phillips Exeter Academy and he founded the rowing program at Amherst College. TP served in many capacities at the Narragansett Boat Club, including President. During his tenure, he reinstituted the Boat Club's tradition of sponsoring rowing regattas, which continues to the present. While employed at Brown he was an officer of the Brown Rowing Assoc. After moving to Florida in 1991, TP co-founded the Halifax Rowing Assoc. in Daytona Beach. TP loved to compete as a sculler and to introduce the sport to everyone he met. Music gave him great joy and he played the flute daily. He enjoyed playing duets with his dear friend Tom Greene. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Susan, his sister Sarah Paxton and brother Oakes. TP is also survived by son Peter Ames Plimpton (Mary J. Linders), Jane Plimpton Gottier (Harold A.), as well as three grandchildren.

It was an honor, a privilege and a blessing to have known T.P. and his wonderful wife. I worked for them as their personal gardener for 6 years. They were loving, caring and respectful to me always. I have fond memories of working side by side with T.P. I will meet you both in heaven.
God bless.

It was a pleasure to know TP as a fellow ASLA trustee. He was a joy to work with and a true gentleman. His serious side belied a genuine wit.

My condolences to the Plimpton family. I grew up with Mr. Plimpton's daughter, Jane. We knew each other through Fritz and George Oliver of Pojac Point. The Plimpton family lived on Pojac and Janie and I rode horses together at the farm. I remember Mr. Plimpton when Janie had me over for sleep overs. He use to grow his own oats in his green house, at least that's what I think I remember. It was my first taste of oatmeal that wasn't from a box. Janie, Peter and Mrs. Plimpton, please know that you are in my thoughts and my affections. I am who I am today be cause of the wonderful friends I had growing up and the nurturing parents who put up with "the barn girls". My best to you all. Pam (Turner) Graves

I had a row in Dad's 1x today for the first time (a lightweight Sharrow). He was right there with me as I rowed south to marker 47 and back on the Halifax. We had flat water and enjoyed the sun rise. He's at peace now and we are celebrating his life!

It was an honor to know TP. I am very sad to hear of his passing. I have the utmost respect for him. I learned a lot about rowing from him and will never forget the "TP Shove" where he would so gracefully put one foot in his single and effortlessly shove off the dock with the other and sit right down on the seat. This was in his 70's! TP, I hope you are making puddles on glass water in heaven.
