James Edward (Jim) O'Connor Obituary
85, passed away at his home on June 9, 2018 surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Nan (Kelley) O'Connor for 57 years and son of the late James and Helen (O'Keefe) O'Connor.
Jim was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Providence College. He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and also served in the Rhode Island Air National Guard. He devoted more than 30 years as a teacher and counselor in several school systems in Rhode Island. He was an officer of Edgewood-South Elmwood Little League and for many years coached CLCF youth hockey. Besides his wife Nan, Jim is survived by his children, James R. O'Connor (Sheila) of Providence; Kelley A. O'Connor of Cranston; William G. O'Connor (Mary) of Middletown; and Christopher J. O'Connor (Leigh) of South Kingstown; in addition to his grandchildren: Hannah, Ethan, Aidan, Kathleen, Mary Catherine, Joseph and Liam. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Maureen Lynch (Fred) of Cumberland, Patricia Bodell of Pawtucket and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick Academy in Providence.Visitation Thursday, 5 - 8 pm in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Funeral Friday at 8:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith St., Providence.Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. www.boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
