KORSON, Leonard J.
SMITHFIELD
Leonard J. Korson, 86 passed away on Monday at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of the late Betty Ann (Sipos) Korson.Born in Lake Leelanau, MI., he was the son of the late Willard V. and Ludmilla F. (Houdek) Korson. He lived in Smithfield, R.I for the past five years. He previously resided in Cumberland, R.I. Michigan and South Carolina.Mr. Korson was a US Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.He was a former communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in South Carolina, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the parish "Lively Ones" organization, a lifetime member of the VFW in South Carolina, a member of the South Carolina Society of Engineering and the 14K Club. He enjoyed attending church, spending time with family and playing bingo and cribbage.Leonard was a manager at Cogsdill Tool Products, the former Madison Industries, for 42 years before retiring in 1995.He is survived by his two children, Kevin J. Korson and his wife Darlene of North Smithfield and Kimberly A. Sherry and her husband Kevin of Cumberland, four grandchildren, Lee MacDonald, Eric MacDonald, Travis Korson, his wife Emily, along with Adam Korson and two great-grandchildren, Allison and Elliana MacDonald. He was the brother of Arthur, Bernard, Kenneth, Clarence and Dale Korson; and Lynette Springsdorf, Betty Lou Pratt, Cecilia Nelson, Virginia Ross, Martha Moran and Veronica Vandeusen. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Leonards' Life Celebration beginning with Visiting Hours Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM and continues on Monday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road Cumberland.
