I knew Paul Cimini for many years throughout the New England Horse Racing Circuit. He was a great guy and superior horseman. I last saw him in 1994 at Suffolk Downs, he was no longer Outriding. He had become a grainer and was doing well. He is truly missed, all my condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Paul - You deserve it!!!

I knew Paul Cimini from a young age - (13 years old) he approved me for ponying horses at that age at Scarborough Downs in Scarborough Maine. He was the lead Outrider at the time and a GREAT guy to talk to on many occasions. Nearing the end of the summer racing season (1970) at Scarborough Downs he came to me. He told me the track was going to try something different this year. Instead of closing right after Labor Day, the track was going to race - Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons until November 15th. He could not stay due to other commitments. He told me, if you take my place you can have it full time every summer after that. I agreed, he told me where I had to go to get my Outrider's Uniform. The most impressive thing for me was that this Man offered a 16 year old an Outrider's position. As well as he never asked me if I had any questions. Paul had full trust in me since I had been ponying horses at that track 4 summers in a row. I fulfilled my duties then, for the next two summers - (1971 - 1972). When I went to Rockingham Park the next season Paul was one of the Outriders as well as at Suffolk Downs. Suffolk Downs. Rockingham race the summertime, Suffolk Downs the other nine months. He and I was cross paths quite often and He Always had good things to say about anything. Never heard him say an angry word. I have a vivid memory that at one of those tracks. He caught a loose race horse on his off side right at the outside rail. The race horse knocked him and his pony over the outside rail. I was at the quarter pole chute and this incident happened around the 7/8-th pole. I was not on horseback so way too far for me to get to him. The track Emergency Responders were there quickly. Best I can recall both he and his pony were uninjured. I joined the Air Force in 1978 and in one of my visits back to New England, I visited Suffolk Downs. I was in the barn area and walking near the 3/8 ths pole. I saw someone who I thought was Paul holding a lunge line. As I neared him. and it had been several years since last seeing him. I started to say Pa--, he said yes, I thought that was you. He told me he was training horses now and recently won six races. We had a great 10 minute conversation. This is the last time I ever saw and for some reason that incident stays with me. Over a year ago at Tampa Bay Downs, I had the chance to speak with a lady Outrider. I was giving her a brief synopsis of my career and how I became an Outrider. Then mentioned the name of the guy who got me my Outriders position was Paul Cimini. She immediately stated, I know him well, I know his wife well, I know his family well I was shocked, I asked her if Paul was still alive, she - oh no - he died several years ago. It hit me hard knowing the kind of guy he was and now he is gone. I looked him up and he popped right up on the computer. I read the Obituary with my mind going all the way back to 1966. I hope there is a big racetrack in heaven and Paul is on the job. My Deepest and most Sincere condolences to any and all family members. I WANT you to Paul Cimini was one of a kind and an all around Great Guy that walked the earth. While influencing my life and I am sure many other lives as well. Rest in Peace Paul - Be completely confident you are and will never be forgotten by me.

Paul Samini with the outrider up at Scarborough Downs in Maine, when I started pony horses at 13 years old. In 1970 the track was going to run a new test Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon. He said he couldn´t stay he had to go to a different job he said if I take his place, I can have a full-time the following summers, he trusted me at 16 years old. He was a good guy one of the best guys I´ve met at the race track. I actually ran into another route writer back in January of this year when I message his name she said I know him well I know his wife, his kids , I was shocked how much to say we have my Sarah sincerest condolences and apologies are condolences. Very worried that Pol has passed. I hope he´s resting in peace up there at the big race track in the sky.

I knew Paul Cimini since the mid 1960s. He got me my first Outrider's job at Scarborough Downs in Scarborough, Maine in 1970 when I was 16 years old. I would see him Outriding at both Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park as the years went by. Then I joined the Air Force and when I would come back to New England to visit I would see and talk to him as he had now become a trainer. One of the BEST guys I have ever met! I recently moved near Tampa Bay Downs and went to the track and spoke with one of the Outriders. I mentioned Paul's name, she said, "Knew him very well, knew his wife and kids." I was shocked, I asked her if he was still alive and she said Paul had passed several years ago. That was about three weeks ago and I have no stopped thinking of Paul since, so I decided to look him up on line and found this page. My heart and prayers are with Paul and his family, the world lost a Great Guy when Paul passed away - May He Rest in Peace!
