Dear Gallogly Family

I'll always remember your mother smiling. Through my childhood, and more recently in pictures with my parents, she always seemed to be a person who was just plain happy. Calm and steady amid the whirlwind of family and politics... a rock. I also enjoyed hearing my dad's stories of your parents in AZ, the odyssey to the Lama farm and the trek to the Grand Canyon come to mind.
As I get older I value my long time friends more and more. My parents were so blessed by their lifetime friendship with yours. And even as their husbands passed and despite fading memory, my mother's friendship with Mrs. G remained steady.

My sister and I thank you for the kindness you showed our mother in you time of sorrow. She might have not been able to express all she felt - she remembers you better as children - but you made her feel special. Thank you.

My condolences to the Gallogly family. I didn't know Florence but I worked with her brother-in-law Larry at the Journal, and I used to see Ed watching the kids compete in winter track at the Cranston St. Armory. My condolences to you all.

Heartfelt condolences from the Macdonalds of St. Michael's who have such great memories of growing up together with all the Galloglys. We well remember how incredibly welcoming your Mom was to us all when we would visit the family on Ontario Street, and oftentimes end up staying for the entire day if not overnight! She was always so organized and calm in the midst of all the activity going on throughout the house and in the yard. It truly seemed as if the entire neighborhood would come over on a regular basis, and she would not miss a beat in terms of making sure everyone was safe, comfortable, and well fed! It all appeared so seemless back then, but we all now well know how much time and energy she had to expend to pull it off. All of this on top of raising eleven kids with your Dad. Truly extraordinary! We consider ourselves very blest to have experienced her remarkable kindness, and our prayers and thoughts are with you all at this difficult time.

For all the Galloglys, I am so looking forward to being with you today and tomorrow to celebrate Florence's life, which could not be more beautifully put than "she was blessed with good cheer and common sense and met the challenges and losses of this life with grace and dignity." I would be lucky to have that said about me. I know that was true of her, from the many happy occasions I had to be with her...and many of you. Mac (aka, Jim McDonald, csc)

Your mother went to college with my mother, Phyllis Carey, and was a bridesmaid at my mother's wedding to John Ryan. They didn't see a lot of each other but I know my mother was fond of her--and I remember as a child receiving Christmas cards your mother sent, proudly showing her growing family. My condolences.
