OLD FORGE — Joseph J. "Joe" Kotnarowski, 93, of Old Forge, died March 26, 2015, at the Community Living Center of the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center in Plains Township, surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary. A blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Kowalchik, Theresa C.* - Allentown  
ALLENTOWN — Theresa C. Kowalchik, 75, of Allentown, died March 26, 2015, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice. She was the wife of George J. Kowalchik Sr. Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Catherine A. (Borinski) Roberts. She was a line worker for Alpo Pet Foods for 22 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Orefield. Survivors include her husband; son, George J. Kowalchik Jr. and his wife, Sandy, Goodyear, Arizona; daughter, Theresa C., wife of Wally Derr, Allentown; sister, Margaret Hannis, Florida; granddaughters, Nicole, wife of Daulton Messick, and Jenna Shultz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Schantz Funeral Home P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 617-A Main St., Hellertown, PA 18055.

LaBar, David L.* - Tunkhannock  
TUNKHANNOCK — David L. LaBar, of Tunkhannock, died at his home on Thursday evening, March 26, 2015. He was born in Lemon Township, Wyoming County, on Dec. 21, 1949, a son of the late Joseph Myron and Ardena Ilma Brunges LaBar. David was a 1968 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and was employed at the Procter & Gamble plant in Mehoopany for more than 24 years. He enjoyed restoring vintage cars, attending car shows and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lee LaBar; and a brother, Kenneth LaBar. Surviving are a son, David Jr., Factoryville; daughter and son-in-law, Robin LaBar-Stalker and Keith, Tunkhannock; brothers, Carl LaBar, Myron and Chris LaBar, Tunkhannock. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Mr. Ernest King officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Marut, Helen* - Hanover Township  
HANOVER TWP. — Helen Marut, 87, of Hanover Township, died at her daughter Susan's home on Friday, March 27, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born in Edwardsville, Aug. 22, 1927. She resided in Hanover Township her entire life. She was a daughter of the late Sophie and Frank Fela. Helen attended Hanover schools. She worked at Faith Shoe Co. and RCA, retiring in 1988. She was a lifelong member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church and a member of the Christian Mothers and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Helen was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially time with her husband at the casino. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed feeding everyone in the family, traditional Polish food. She always had kind words and a smile ready for anyone who needed them. She will be greatly missed. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Jr.; brothers, Stanley, Joseph, George, Peter, Louis, Frank, John; and sister, Blanche. Surviving are her husband, John Marut, who she was married to for 63 years; daughters, Susan Mazzarella and her husband, Andre, Diane Marut and her husband, Joe DeMarco; sister, Ann Wilpiszeski, Hanover Township; grandchildren, Scott and Eric Stobodzian, Jessica Smith and Jillian Storey, Christopher and Matthew DeMarco; three great-grandchildren, Rhett, Jack and James Smith; several nieces and nephews. The family will recieve family and friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Charles Sherbin Funeral Home, 630 Main Road, Hanover Green. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday in Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Main Road, Buttonwood. Interment will be in the Hanover Green Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude toward the nurses from Traditional Hospice, especially Megan and Michelle.

Menendez, Diane* - Bear Creek  
BEAR CREEK — Diane Menendez, 69, of Bear Creek, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 3, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Raymond and Myra Bone Mugford. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended Coughlin High School and was employed at Active Quilting for 40 years. Diane enjoyed entertaining and being around family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Stajewski; and brother, John Mugford. Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Vincent Menendez; son, Glen Kocher; daughters, Carol Morgan and Sandi Campbell; stepson, Nick Menendez; daughters, Jennifer Menendez and Vanessa Menendez; four grandchildrenl three great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Mugford and his wife, Marianne, James Mugford; sister, Maryanne Hoch and her husband, Gary; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph A. Kearney, pastor of St. Benedict's Parish, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Minchak, Helen* - Herndon  
HERNDON, Va. — Mrs. Helen Minchak, 91, of Herndon, formerly of Pittston, gracefully passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at her home. Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Michaylo Ochall. She was a 1942 graduate of Pittston High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston. Prior to retirement, Helen was employed at Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston, Pittston Area School District and Hillcrest Shades, Taylor. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael, who passed away on Nov. 9, 1998; brothers, Paul, Michael, George, John, Andrew, Robert; two infant brothers named Joseph; and sisters, Mary Ochall, Ann Shemo and Margaret Kahanec. Surviving are sister, Agnes Roman, Herndon, formerly of Exeter; son, Michael Minchak and his wife, the former Mary Lou Mazzarella, of Herndon; granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine, Sterling, Virginia; many nieces and nephews Funeral services were held March 27 from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with Mass of the Divine Liturgy in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., Pittston, with the Rev. Gary Messinger officiating. WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Mrs. Regina M. Motovidlak, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Timber Ridge Health Care Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born July 29, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Bennett Briele. Regina attended St. Joseph's School, Wilkes-Barre Township, and was employed for many years at American Cigar. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1986; daughters, Donna Sharpe and Evelyn Kornova; son, Raymond Motovidlak; granddaughter, Nicole Thomas; great-grandson, Gabriel Thomas-Thompson; brothers, Edward, Robert and John Briele; and sisters, Rose Bonk, Dorothy Griffith and Marguerite Maloney. Surviving are her sons, Thomas Motovidlak and his wife, Arline, Wilkes-Barre, and Michael Motovidlak and his wife, Tammy, Wilkes-Barre Township; daughters, Jean Kostak and her husband, Leonard, Linden, New Jersey, and Gail Missal and her husband, Donald, Wilkes-Barre Township; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Mowers, Howard E.* - Sweet Valley  
SWEET VALLEY — Howard E. Mowers, 82, of Sweet Valley and formerly of Shippensburg, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at his home. Mr. Mowers was born in Stoughstown, a son of the late Floyd L. and Mary Pearl Gilbert Mowers. He served in the U.S. National Guard. Howard retired from the F.J. Boutell Automobile Carriers Inc. in Maryland after 30 years of service and then later was employed by Monn's Firewood, Shippensburg. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death was his first wife, the former Joyce Hershey. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Kline Keiper Mowers; daughters, Jan Sholly and her husband, Rodney, Shippensburg, JoEllen Reese and her husband, Jeffery, Shippensburg; sisters, Louise Pisle, Shippensburg, Emma Faye Dice, Chambersburg, Millie Koser, Shippensburg, and Dorothy Mull, Sun City, Arizona; grandchildren, Nichole Bender, Orrstown, Amber Holtry, Shippensburg; great-grandchildren, Cierra and Kohyn Bender. The family gives a special thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and especially Howard's nurses, Mary Ann, Izzy and Sue. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
