Leona E. Kerchanin, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Smith Health Care, Mountain Top.
Born March 12, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Stella Yankowski Stavish. Leona was a 1943 graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School. She was employed for over 20 years at R.C.A. Corp., Mountain Top, until retiring in 1984. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and formerly a member of St. Joseph's Church, Wilkes-Barre Township. She was active in the Georgetown Women's Club and Georgetown Settlement Camp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael in 1995; grandsons, Thomas, Michael; brothers, Stanley, Lawrence, and Richard Stavish; sisters, Regina Stavish, Helen Remakus, Jean Honnis, and Florence Verberg.
Surviving are her daughters, Michaline Adamczyk and her husband, Thomas of Mountain Top; Elaine Sherman and her husband, Barry of North Aurora, Ill.; Sandra Jachim and her husband, Larry of Mountain Top; Joanne Lach and her husband, Michael of Hawthorne Woods, Ill.; Lynn Melan and her husband, Robert of Ellicott, Md.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Pilch of Wilkes-Barre, Gerry Bedrin of Georgia, Dolores Wozniak of Georgia; brothers, Leo and Edward Stavish of Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
