Jean M. Cholewa, of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Nanticoke on May 3, 1935, she was a daughter of the late John and Laura Czekaj Verfin. A lifelong resident of Nanticoke, she attended Nanticoke schools and was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was employed by Penn Footwear and the Nanticoke Villa Retirement Home prior to retiring in 2007.
She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was passionate about her garden and flowers, and loved spoiling Pepper, the family dog.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cholewa Sr., 2009, and an infant son, Brian.
Surviving are sons Richard Jr. and wife Linda, Wapwallopen; David Sr. and wife Karen, Nanticoke, and Daniel, Nanticoke; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard, Ashley, and Joseph, Forty Fort; sister, Evelyn Van Pelt, Nanticoke; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice Community Care, 100 Williams St., at Clay Avenue, Dunmore, PA 18510.
