Byers Ruth Hunt Wolgemuth Byers, 99, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg. Born August 6, 1913, in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry Hunt and Annie Rider Tompkins. Ruth attended Manor Township High School and graduated from high school at Messiah Academy, attended Messiah College, Grantham, and graduated with a B.A. degree from Upland College, Upland, Calif. She was a Principal and Missionary Teacher in Zambia and Zimbabwe, from 1945-1965, then director of Alumni Affairs at Messiah College from 1967-1975. She was a member of Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church, Mechanicsburg, where for a time she served on the Church Board. Surviving step-children, Nelson W. Byers and his wife, Doris Ann of Chambersburg; Charlie B. Byers, Jr. and his wife, Miriam of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Ann Shelly and her husband, Roy of Carlisle; Ivan Byers and his wife, Janet of Wyoming, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Wolgemuth in 1975 and her late husband Bishop Charlie B. Byers in 1997; one brother, Isaac; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Palmer and Mrs. Martha Heisey. Services will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church, 100 Mt. Allen Dr., Mechanicsburg. Burial will be held in the Crossroads Cemetery, Mt. Joy. Visitations will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Messiah Village, 100 Mt. Allen Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; or The Gospel Tide Radio Ministry, P.O. We extend our love and prayers to the family of Ruth Byers. We remember living and working with her during our first years at Matopo Mission. She was a lady who loved the Lord and served Him well.
