Glenn E. Bernecker, 80 of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Providence Place. Born on January 31, 1932 in St. Thomas, he was the son of the late Clarence and Catherine (Hopkins) Bernecker. A 1950 graduate from St. Thomas H.S., he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot as Systems Analyst from 1950 thru 1987. Glenn was a member of Masonic Lodges: Blue Lodge George Washington Lodge 0143, Chambersburg, PA, Harrisburg Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hagerstown, MD and the Zembo Shriners, Harrisburg, PA. He also belonged to AARP, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Bonita Springs, FL, Improved Order of Redmen, Williamsport, MD, Moose Lodge 42 in Chambersburg and the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown, MD. He was active as a soccer referee for PIAA for 39 years as well as college sports and baseball umpire for 29 years. Surviving him are: two daughters, Deborah (Mrs. James) Olson, Susan (Mrs. Lynn) McNew; two sons, Roger (husband of Ann) Bernecker, Carl (husband of Brenda) Bernecker, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother, David (husband of Hazel) Bernecker of St. Thomas and a sister, Helen (Mrs. Robert) Hoover of Chambersburg. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, December 24, 2012 in Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements are by the W. F. Sellers Funeral Home. Glenn was a good friend and neighbor whom we had the privilige to know for the past 12 years. We enjoyed talking and laughing with him.He loved to joke around. Always a kind word to say. Very caring. We will miss you Glenn.
