Dennis Hastings Divelbiss, 71, of Hagerstown, Md., died peacefully Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md. Born September 2, 1941, he was the eldest son of Perce R. Divelbiss and Camilla (Tillie) Hastings Divelbiss, deceased. Before his retirement, he was employed for 35 years at Charles Town Race Track. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School in 1959. He was also a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #378 of Hagerstown. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. Surviving are his loving wife, Carol S. (O'Toole) Divelbiss, whom he married February 11, 1967, daughter Diana K. Gray and husband, Neal, and son, Evan, daughter Sally A. Rogers and husband, Steve, and son Lukas, sister Cheryl Lafferman and husband, Alan, of Frederick, Md., brothers J. Gary Divelbiss, and wife, Jenny, of Hagerstown, and James R. Divelbiss and wife, Belinda, of Fredericksburg, Va., 7 nieces, 3 nephews, and 2 cousins. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, taking trips to the beach, and tending to his roses. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Bill Warehime officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday February 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.
