Stevens, Paul  
Paul G. Stevens Chambersburg Paul G. "Sonny" Stevens, age 89, formerly of McConnellsburg, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at The Shook Home in Chambersburg. Paul was born April 2, 1927 in Clear Ridge, the son of the late Harvey B. and the late Nell (Curran) Stevens. He married Dorothy Horton Stevens on August 21, 1948 in Hagerstown, MD. Paul served in the United States Army from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946, continuing his service in the Army Reserves for a total of 35 years of service. He retired as a Supervisor from the Letterkenny Army Depot in 1981. After retiring from Letterkenny, Paul worked for the Morgan Company transporting travel trailers up and down the east coast. Paul was a member of the United Church of Christ in McConnellsburg, a member of the American Legion Post 561 where he served as Past Commander and Past President of the Board of Directors, a life member of the VFW and a member of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 774. Paul, along with his wife Dot and family enjoyed spending time at their home in Chincoteague, VA. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to his fruit trees. Paul is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stevens of Chambersburg, three children, Gary Stevens of Chambersburg, Randy (husband of Cheryl) Stevens of Newville, and Tami Hopkins of Chambersburg; and seven grandchildren, Gary Stevens II, John Stevens, Ashley Risbon, Carly Stevens, Chelsea Stevens, Caity Stevens and Mackenzie Hopkins); and two great-grandchildren, Kaisey and Jayden Stevens. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at McConnellsburg United Church of Christ in McConnellsburg at 2 p.m. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the memorial service. Stacy L. Senft Orbisonia Stacy Louise Senft, 49, died at 8:15 AM, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Pinnacle Health-Community General Campus, Harrisburg. Born December 12, 1966 at Rockville, MD, she was the daughter of Richard D. and Jessie (Rush) Rhoades. Her father is deceased and her mother survives of Orbisonia. She was married to Jon Senft, who survives at home; survivors also include two sons, Dane Rhoades, Orbisonia and Matthew Rhoades and companion, Dawn Coy, Shippensburg; two stepchildren, Ryan Senft and wife, Amber, Three Springs, and Megan Werner and husband, Glenn, Mapleton Depot; three step grandchildren, Caleb Senft and Sawyer and Eliza Werner; a brother, Brian Rhoades and wife, Karen; and a sister, Shannon Whitsel and husband, Zachary, all of Orbisonia. A brother Billy Joe Rhoades preceded in death. Mrs. Senft was looking forward to the birth of her new grandchild Mason Richard Rhoades who is due to be born October 6, 2016. She was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of God, Three Springs. Mrs. Senft was a respiratory therapist at the Chambersburg Hospital for 20 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, with Mr. Alann Schmidt officiating. Interment will be at Old School Baptist Cemetery, Three Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Starr, Merle  
Merle E. Starr Greencastle Merle Eugene Starr, 76, passed away September 17, 2016, in the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, after an extended illness. Born May 17, 1940 in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Ferris G. and Nellie (Timmons) Starr. He graduated from James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, with the Class of 1959. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 until 1963. On January 5, 1964, in Hagerstown, MD, he married his beloved wife, Linda (Eagler) Starr. He was employed by Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, for 47 years. Always a "Solution Man" with an engineer's mind, he helped to develop 76 patents for the company. He retired from his supervisor position there in 1999. His engineer's mind never rested and he would use his skills to help many friends and family throughout his life. He was a member of the United Swallow Club and the CVR Racing Club. He was an avid and skilled bowler, and was a member of the Landis Tool League as well as a bowling league in Blue Ridge Summit. No matter how he was feeling, he was able to still joke and be his friendly, outgoing self. He always looked for the brighter side of things and for the best in all people. Mr. Starr's great passion was for his pigeons. He was about 10 years of age when he began raising pigeons at home. Even joining the Marines did not put a stop to his love for these birds. He found a way to keep his birds throughout his time served, and continued with his passion for them for the rest of his life. He raised pigeons for show and most recently began raising racing homer pigeons. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his three sons and their children, of whom he was most proud: Robert E. Starr, and his wife, Lisa, Newville, Richard R. Starr, and his wife, Lynn, Mt. Airy, MD, and Timothy M. Starr, and his wife, Deborah of Mercersburg, and the seven grandchildren: Cody E. Starr, Aurora L. Starr, Jennifer L. Starr, Shelby R. Wimbrough, and her husband, Richard, Jeremy O. Starr, Garrett M. Starr and Colby G. Starr. He is also survived by a sister, Rebecca Gordon, Mercersburg; a brother, Roy Starr of Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Delauder, and an infant sister, who died at a young age; three brothers, Joseph Thomas Starr, John Starr, and Junior G. Starr; half-sister, Catherine Starr ;and two half-brothers, Barton and Scott Starr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with Pastor Jeff Kettering officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Flowers are welcome, but in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Sullenberger, Eugene  
Eugene L. Sullenberger Chambersburg Eugene Lee Sullenberger, 70, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, in his home. Born April 8, 1946, in Darke County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Donald and Alma (Denlinger) Sullenberger. Mr. Sullenberger was employed by Shady Grove Cabinet Shop for 46 years. He retired in December 2013. He was a member of Old German Baptist Church, New Conference. Mr. Sullenberger is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy (Boone) Sullenberger; two sons, Brent Sullenberger and his wife, Melissa (Wray) of Chambersburg and Philip Sullenberger and his wife, Darlene (Bowerman) of Chambersburg; one grandson, Sterling Nowakowski and his wife, Janice (Forry) of Fayetteville; and one sister, Kay Sullenberger of Arcanum, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Russell L. and Caroline C. (Bayer) Boone; and two infant sons, Kevin Boone Sullenberger and Scott Russell Sullenberger. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 23, 2016, in Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Falling Spring Congregation, 2580 Spring Road, Chambersburg. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
