Scanlan, James Francis  
James Francis Scanlan April 15, 1937 - July 18, 2016 Chambersburg, PA James Francis Scanlan, 79, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016, at Gettysburg Hospital. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank Joseph and Emma Harriet Fallon Scanlan. A 1960 graduate of the University of Maryland, Jim went on to teach for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was the English Coordinator of the Honors Program at Gaithersburg Senior High School. Jim was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, a lay apostolate of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, the Knights of Columbus of Chambersburg, PA, Kittatinny Historical Society, BPOE #600, American Legion Post 46, and the Chambersburg Kennel Club. Jim is survived by his brother, Frank Joseph Scanlan of Gettysburg, PA,; a niece, Libet McDaniel (husband John) of Frederick, MD; two great-nieces, Rebecca Yount and Molly McDaniel; and a great-nephew, Joshua McDaniel. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Brian T. Olkowski will celebrate. Inurnment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. Sheffield, Dorcas  
Dorcas R. Sheffield Mercersburg Dorcas R. Sheffield, 76, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born May 5, 1940, at Mercersburg, she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Gladys C. Deshong Mills. Dorcas attended Mercersburg Schools. For a number of years she worked at the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg. Following graduation from Chambersburg Beauty School, Dorcas owned and operated Sheffield's Beauty Salon of Mercersburg from 1965 to 2005. She enjoyed flower arranging, sewing, and trips to Myrtle Beach and Atlantic City. She was a member of St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, St. Thomas. Surviving family include her husband, Larry E. "Dinky" Sheffield, Sr., whom she married September 9, 1955; three children, Larry E., Jr., and wife Karen Sheffield of Mercersburg, Cheryl D. Young of Clear Spring, Lorie A. and husband Robert Campbell of Chambersburg; a brother, Paul Mills of York. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. Dorcas was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Donald and Carl Mills. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 19 at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, 173 Rhondel Drive, St. Thomas, with the Revs. Alvin J. Hezlep and W. David Kent, MD, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Shrawder, George  
George Shrawder Shippensburg George J. Shrawder, 87, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He was born October 14, 1928 in Newburg. George was a son of the late Elizabeth E. "Bessie" Reed Shrawder. He was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, Shippensburg for over 50 years. George retired in July of 1985 from the Letterkenny Army Depot, where he was employed for over 32 years. He was also a farmer. George loved music, especially gospel and bluegrass. He played many instruments and accompanied his daughter, Pamela, while she played the piano. Since 1985, George hauled the local Amish. George is survived by his wife, Leora G. Hockenberry Shrawder; one daughter, Pamela J. (Stephen) Cramer of Shippensburg; one son, Roy L. Shrawder of Newburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Forsythe and their children, Jaelyn and Talon of Chambersburg, Stephanie (Ryan) Davenport and their daughter, London of Chambersburg, Lindsey (Daniel) Gunnell of McConnellsburg, Natalie (Charles, III) Snyder and their children, Charles IV and Clayton of Shippensburg, Joni Shrawder and her son, Derek Walter Metheny of Shippensburg, Jessi Shrawder and Travis Shrawder of Newburg. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy L. Shrawder. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg. Officiating will be the Rev. John E. Inglin. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home. Annetta Faith Snyder Nov. 17, 1936 - July 18, 2016 Chambersburg Annetta Faith Snyder, 79, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, at Manor Care, Chambersburg. She was the widow of George W. Snyder. Born November 17, 1936, in Broadtop, PA, she was daughter of the late Milton and Rosie (Thomas) Black. Surviving are her daughters, Tammy Reccardo and husband, Joe of Greencastle and Christine Boyer of Chambersburg; granddaughters, Brandy Boyer of Chambersburg and Ashly Snyder-Morales of CT; grandson, Hunter Snyder of Chambersburg; great-granddaughter, Brianna Morales of CT; brother, Robert Black of Chambersburg; and sister, Grace Thomas of CO. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Zane Black; and sisters, Betty Jane Rizer and Ruth Dobson. Services are at the convenience of the family.
