Abel Memmi

Abel Memmi Abel Memmi, 95, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born October 19, 1918, at Robertsdale, the son of the late Domenico and Grazia (Facchinei) Memmi. Abel was a graduate of Orbisonia High School in Orbisonia. After graduation, Abel went to Casey Jones School of Aeronautics in Summit, N.J. He was then employed in the engineering department of Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, Md., for over 40 years. He worked there during the company's designing and production of the C-82 and the C-119 Flying Box Car. During his employment, the company sent him to work on several projects in Boston and Dallas. Abel was an avid golfer, bowler and enjoyed gardening. In his younger days, he had a passion for hiking on the mountain trails of Pennsylvania and Maryland. While attending Casey Jones, he caddied at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Chambersburg B.P.O.E Elks Lodge #600 for 57 years and the AARP. He is survived by four sisters and one brother, Trieste Brandt and Dima Memmi of Chambersburg, Dina Starliper of Mercersburg, Clementina Memmi and Anthony Memmi of Chambersburg; two sisters-in-law, Lee Memmi of Bristol, and Miriam Memmi of Chambersburg; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aine P. Reynolds Memmi; four brothers and one sister, Joseph, Linsey, Villie, Paul and Blance Stinson. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Father James R. O'Brien officiating. There will be a visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the W. F. Sellers Funeral Home on May 13, 2014. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Corpus Christi Catholic Church; or St. Vincent De Paul Society, 320 Philadelphia Avenue; or to Chambersburg B.P.O.E Elks Lodge #600, 168 LWE, both of Chambersburg, PA 17201.
