Charles E. Detrich Jr.

Charles E. Detrich, Jr. Charles E. "Pete" Detrich Jr., age 91, of Mercersburg, passed away May 20, 2014 at Providence Place, Chambersburg. He was born November 6, 1922 in Chambersburg, PA to Charles and Viola (Funk) Detrich Sr. He was married to Elizabeth Faith Detrich on Feb. 15, 1947 who died March 6, 2010. Charles had been a self-employed mechanic before going to college and getting a degree in education. He taught Auto Mechanics at the Franklin Countuy Vo-tech School until he moved into administration. Following his retirement from Vo-tech he taught at Penn State University main campus for four years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lemasters, PA. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Pete is survived by his daughter, Susan (wife of Paul) Strubhar of Mercersburg and his daughter-in-law, Beverly Detrich of Taylorsville, KY. He has four grandchildren: Charles E. "Charlie" Detrich IV of Chambersburg, Brian S. (husband of Helen) Detrich of Taylorsville, KY, Angela R. (wife of Bart) Stark of Taylorsville, KY, and Matthew C. (husband of Sarah) Strubhar of Nazareth, PA. He has eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Detrich III in 2007 and a sister, Maxine Crouse in 2013. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Lemasters with the Rev. Robert Mentzer officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 till 9:00 PM at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg and one hour prior to the service at the church. Masonic services will be held at 8:00 PM on Thursday. Interment will be held at Stenger Hill Cemetery. The Honor Guard of VFW Post 1599 will be conducting graveside rites. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA will be handling the arrangements.
