David E. Schooley, 88, of Mercersburg, died at 9:23 p.m. December 25, 2012 at Baltimore Veterans Administration Center, Baltimore. Born March 5, 1924 at McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Kate Summers Schooley. David graduated from The Scotland School, and then enlisted in the US Army. During World War II
he served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre and earned a theatre ribbon with one bronze service star, with Company K, 60th Infantry, 9th Division. He also earned a Combat Infantry Badge. He was wounded in action in Germany on October 11, 1944 for which he earned the Purple Heart
and was deemed 90% disabled. Surviving family includes a sister, Bethelene Peck of Chambersburg, and brothers, Robert N. and wife Velma Schooley of Mercersburg and Donald J. Schooley of Ft. Loudon. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard J. Schooley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Pastor Floyd E. Myers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Viewing one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
