Emmert W. Whitaker

Emmert W. Whitaker Emmert W. Whitaker, 89, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of 9145 Meadowbrook Drive, Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the nursing home. Born September 26, 1924, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Charles L. Whitaker, Sr. and Marguerite (Emmert) Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker attended Waynesboro schools and later attended Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg. He and his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Hilda G. (Grove) Whitaker, were married February 21, 1953, in Chambersburg. They had lived at their Meadowbrook Drive address since 1964. He entered the nursing home in January 2014. Mr. Whitaker worked in sales engineering for Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro. He retired in 1976 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #586 Free and Accepted Masons, Waynesboro. Mr. Whitaker enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and the design and reproduction of miniature engines. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Tula W. Elvin of Warsaw, N.C.; one grandson, Ryan C. Elvin; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles L. Whitaker, Jr. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
