Howard L. Roland

Howard L. Roland Mr. Howard L. "Jake" Roland, 82, of Greencastle, passed away Sunday, July 28 2013, in Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born July 23, 1931 in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Minnie Mae Roland. Mr. Roland was a graduate of Mercersburg High School with the Class of 1950. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He and his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Genevieve L. "Jenny" (Stoler) Roland, were married May 19, 1961 in Hagerstown. They had lived at 375 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle before moving to their present residence in 2005. Mr. Roland was employed at Armco Steel and Sunnyway Foods, both of Greencastle. He retired in 1992. He was a member of Solomon's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg, PA, life member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319 and member of Rescue Hose Company Fire Police, both of Greencastle, Eagles Club, Inc., Waynesboro and National AARP. Mr. Roland enjoyed traveling, cruising and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Todd L. Roland of Greencastle and Troy L. Roland and his wife, Teresa of Texas; two granddaughters, Chelsey Clark and Brianna Roland; a sister, Evelyn Zeis of Mercersburg; a brother, James W. "Bill" Roland of Mercersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with the Rev. Peter Emig officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Church Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday in the funeral home.
