Marvin C.E. Atherton

Mr. Marvin C.E. "Chuck" Atherton, 44, of 119 North Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA died at 10:04 A.M., Monday, June 17, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. Born February 28, 1969 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Marvin E. Atherton of Chambersburg and Kathleen J. (Bowling) Atherton of Chambersburg. He is also survived by his step-mother, Deborah S. Atherton. Mr. Atherton graduated from Chambersburg High School with the class of 1987. He and his wife, Angela D. (Shatzer) Atherton, were married on April 20, 1995 in Greencastle. They lived at their current residence for the last 10 years. In his early years, Chuck was employed as an investigator at First Data, Hagerstown, MD and more recently by Blackstone Otr Wheel, Chambersburg, as a forklift operator. He had also worked for Whitetail Resort as a snow maker and was a substitute route driver for Little Debbie Snacks in the Greencastle area. He served as a coach, umpire and member of the board of directors for Greencastle Antrim Baseball Softball Association and as coach and member of the board of directors for Greencastle Antrim Midget Football Association. Chuck was also a member of: Church of the Brethren, Greencastle, Harry D. Ziegler V.F.W. Post #6319, Greencastle, Chambersburg Men's Club, Nellie Fox Bowling League, Marine Corps Bowling League, Chambersburg Inter-cub Dart League, United States Specialty Sports Association; he played and umpired men's softball, was a Chambersburg Cardinals Professional Football Team volunteer and he enjoyed golfing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Hunter N. Atherton, a brother, Michael E. Atherton and his companion, Brandy Jakubic of Chambersburg; a step-sister: Danielle Henry of Fayetteville, PA; two step-brothers: Paul McNew of Chambersburg, Brian McNew of Fayetteville; his mother-in-law, Jerry Shatzer and her companion Bryan Rabbett, his brother-in-law, Andy Shatzer and his wife Denise, five nieces and nephews: Trajan Atherton, Taryn Atherton, Austen Shatzer, Emma Shatzer and Emma Kauffman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 21, 2013 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, with Pastor Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be held privately at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday in the funeral home.
