Richard E. Gouker

Richard Eugene "Dick" Gouker, 62, of Mercersburg, born May 31, 1950, departed this life surrounded by his loved ones on March 6, 2013. He was the son of the late Joseph Eugene Gouker and the late Elizabeth Robinson Gouker Hurley. He attended James Buchanan High School. Dick married Linda Diana Mellott in 1966, and lost the love of his life in June of 2007. Dick served in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1993. He was stationed in Spain, Saudi Arabia, Texas, the Philippines, Texas, and Alamogordo, New Mexico. He served in Operation Desert Storm and retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Dick also attained his Associates Degree while serving his country. After returning home to Mercersburg from the military, he worked as a Correctional Officer for the State of Maryland. Dick was past commander of both the Mercersburg American Legion and VFW, member of the Mercersburg Moose, a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Worshipful Master of the Tularosa Lodge in New Mexico, past member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, NM, past member of Eastern Star, NM, and past member of Zembo Shriners in Harrisburg. Dick is preceded in death by a great-grandson, and is survived by son, Jeffrey Lynn Gouker, daughter, Vonda Maria Gouker, granddaughter, Michelle Gouker Djajich, all of McConnellsburg, granddaughter, Shiann Gouker, of Alamogordo, NM, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Vonda Gouker Wilt, of Winchester, VA, a brother, Ronald Lee Gouker, of Mercersburg, a sister, Patricia Ann Wilson, of Williamsport, and a sister, Josie Gouker Cornelius, of Chambersburg. Family and friends will be received at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9th from 6-8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. graveside service on Sunday, March 10th at the Fairview Memorial Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Mercersburg American Legion. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
