Robert N. Hawbaker

Robert N. Hawbaker Robert N. Hawbaker, 81, of Mercersburg, died February 23, 2014, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 21, 1932, at Mercersburg, he was a son of the late W. Preston, Sr. and Elva Blair Hawbaker. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Mercersburg High School. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he worked at Letterkenny for 37 years, retiring in 1985. During his retirement, he worked for Bob Hoffman Chevy/Buick Inc. He was a member of Moose Lodge #1790, American Legion #517, and VFW #6241, all of Mercersburg. As a member of VFW #6241, he served as Quartermaster to the VFW for 40 years, from 1966 to 2006. He also served as a trustee for District 21 of the VFW for a number of years. Bob followed NASCAR and was an avid Oakland A's and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He enjoyed yard work and traveling. Surviving family include his wife of 26 years, M. Chloe Cohick Hawbaker; seven siblings, James A. and wife Eunice Hawbaker, Boyd E. and wife Dorothy Hawbaker, Willis P. Jr. "Junie" and wife Lois Hawbaker, and Helen V. and husband George Widdows, all of Chambersburg, Richard P. and wife Shirley Hawbaker and Mazie J. and husband Galen Meyers, both of Lemasters, and Rudy L. and wife Sandy Hawbaker of Waynesboro. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday March 1 at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Inc., Mercersburg, with Pastor Harold E. Yeager officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to MMP & W Ambulance Club, P.O. Box 89, Mercersburg, PA 17236.
