Samuel V. Harper

Samuel V. Harper Samuel V. Harper, 72, of Shippensburg, passed Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Chambersburg Hospital. He was born Tuesday, March 18, 1941, in Harrisburg, the son of the late Samuel W. and Sarah G. (Gator) Harper. Samuel attended Shippensburg High School. He was employed by Kuhn Transportation in Gardners as a truck driver for many years. He had been previously employed by Fry Communications in Mechanicsburg and Baer Packing in Greencastle. He was a member of St. Peters AME Church and Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 in Shippensburg. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Denise (Williams) Harper. He is also survived by two daughters, Stacy M. Lovett and companion Chris Knoll of Saint Thomas, and Amy J. Barnette of Shippensburg; two sons, Samuel I. Harper of Chambersburg and Thommas L. and wife Tawnya Brown of Carlisle; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Michael Harper of Chambersburg; three sisters, Harriet Rideout of Shippensburg, Donna Harper of Harrisburg and Crystal Carraway of Harrisburg; and his beloved in-laws, Beatrice Williams, Buffalo, N.Y., Corinne (Henry) Anderson, Jackson, Miss., Allen Williams, Buffalo, Danny Williams, Buffalo, Diane Crawley, Owings Mills, Md., Lamont Williams, Atlanta, Patricia (Paul) Mangerian, Buffalo, Jawwaad Rasheed, Rome, N.Y., Darlene (David) Ford, Catonsville, Md., Kenny (Bronte) Williams, Buffalo, Michelle Walker, Buffalo, Aaron Williams, Buffalo, Paulette (Craig) Gadley, Buffalo and Bonnie (Tony) Cox, Buffalo. He was preceded in death by siblings, Beverly Harper, Eugene Harper and Doris Harper. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Peters AME Church, 38 Stuart Place, Shippensburg, with Pastor Walter R. Reed officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223.
