Lawrence L. Beaner

Lawrence L. "Jimmy" Beaner, age 87, of 1322 Hunters Chase died Friday, November 27, 2009 in Manor Care Health Services just days before completing his rehabilitation care. Born February 24, 1922, in Hillsboro, Virginia, he was the son of the late Levi Beaner and the late Lucy Beaner Waters. He grew up in Chambersburg and graduated from Chambersurg High School in 1941. He attended Engineers School at Virginia State College. In early 2009, he became a member of the Chambersburg Democrats Club. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 24, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 3, 1946. His military decorations included, but were not limited to the Purple Heart Medal, 3 Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal. Mr. Beaner formerly worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Philadelphia and took an early retirement to care for his late wife, Madelaine. He received the sacrament of Holy Baptism at St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia and he was a faithful supporter of the children's ministry at Kingdom Life Empowerment Center. Surviving are his sons, Lawrence "Little Eagle" Beaner, II and Leonard "Lenny" Beaner of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves his beloved niece, Rosanna "Rosie" Waters Johnson, (daughter of his late brother, Herbert Waters) with whom he resided; his close friend and sister-in-law, Jenny Waters, (widow of his late brother, Mike Waters), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Bessie (Teal) and Ludell (Pruitt) and two more brothers, Leonard "Face" and James. A memorial service for family and friends honoring the life of Mr. Beaner will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, 12:00 pm at the Family Traditions Lighthouse Restaurant, 4301 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg.
