C. Chester "Chet" Gelwicks, 96, formerly of Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 in Michaux Manor, Fayetteville, PA, where he had resided for many years. Born October 22, 1916 in Altenwald, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence G. and Goldie M. (Carbaugh) Gelwicks. He moved to Duffield, PA at an early age and to Chambersburg, PA at the age of 6. His teenage years were spent in Waynesboro. He attended Washington Township High School. He married A. Arletta (Avey) Gelwicks on June 9, 1938 in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to the Tomstown Road residence in 1976. Arletta passed away on January 4, 1998. He worked for Seal Test for 26 years in various plants and positions. He was a milk inspector for several dairy companies including Pensupreme for a short time. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Waynesboro and Calvary Assembly of God, Waynesboro. He was an avid Penn State fan. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers: C. Raymond and Leroy Gelwicks, and a sister, Janet Monn. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro, with Rev. Dwan N. Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 26th in the funeral home.
