Clarence R. Starliper Obituary
Mr. Clarence R. Starliper, 91, formerly of Heritage Hills Retirement Community, Greencastle, currently a resident of Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 in his home. Born June 9, 1921 in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late James Owen and Bessie (Atherton) Starliper. Mr. Starliper attended Mercersburg schools and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater as a medical technician. He and his wife, Elizabeth D. (Mayhugh) Starliper, were married on June 9, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD. They left the area to make a home in Lake Placid, Florida, where they lived for several years before returning to the area. They resided at 75 Eastern Avenue, Apartment 3, Greencastle, for 17 years before moving to Heritage Hills. Mr. Starliper was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, for 10 years, then by Mack Trucks as an assembler for 23 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Greencastle, and enjoyed attending Singing in the Barn, a non-profit gospel music series presented in Duffield. In addition to his wife, is survived by two daughters: Penny L. Ott and her husband George, of Greencastle, Joy L. Eggers and her husband Sidney, of Greencastle; two sons: Barry R. Starliper and his wife Suzanne, of Newburg, PA, Marlis E. Starliper and his wife Sue, of Vero Beach, FL; seventeen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren; a sister, Gail R. Hartman, of Greencastle, two step-sisters, Madeline A. Vallise, of El Cojon, CA and Ida Clark, of Anderson, SC and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: May Kuhn, Helen Hartle, Lucy Harbaugh; two brothers: Walter Starliper, Harry Starliper; and four grandsons: Johnnie Ray Thomas, Joseph Brian Mills, Brandon Michael Eggers and Jordan X. Hearon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 in First Assembly of God Church, 521 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle, with Pastor Barry Starliper, Pastor Jay A. Starliper and Pastor Greg Sinclair officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station. Graveside military honors will be presented by Charles Nitterhouse VFW, Post #1599. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Singing in the Barn, 2778 Mont Alto Rd, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
