Gertrude (Pine) Shaffer, 95, of Fort Loudon, passed away Sunday morning, February 10, 2013, at Menno Haven, where she had resided since October 2011. Born February 9, 1918, in Little Cove, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Jessie Pine. In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Shaffer, and two brothers, Michael and William Pine. She was a supervisor and truck driver at Letterkenny Army Depot during World War II and a supervisor at Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown, Md. She owned and operated Gerties Beauty Shoppe in Fort Loudon for approximately 40 years. She is survived by a son, Charles W. Shaffer, II and his wife, Cindy of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Stephanie Leeper and her husband, David of Yorktown, Va., and Jessie Lu Shaffer of Mont Alto; a great-grandson, Matthew Leeper of Yorktown, Va.; a niece, Patricia Keller of McConnellsburg; a nephew, William (Billy) Pine of Chambersburg; and a special friend, Janet Witmer of Chambersburg. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on February 25 at the Chapel at Menno Haven.
