H. Kenneth Mellott, 81, of Mercersburg, passed away May 15, 2013 at Falling Spring Nursing Center, Chambersburg. Born May 11, 1932 at Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Mary R. Zimmerman Mellott. Ken was a life long dairy farmer. Along with his sister, June, they owned and operated Ken-Mel Farms. Upon June's retirement, he formed a partnership with his nephew Thomas Mellott. He was a member of St. Stephen's UCC of Upton. Surviving family includes his sisters, T. June Mellott of Chambersburg, Doris Hartman of Taneytown, MD, a brother, George Mellott of Mechanicsburg, and nephew Thomas E. and his wife Rhonda Mellott, whom Ken raised and loved as a son, and their children Cassondra J. Mellott-Larusso and Martina R. Mellott. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by 4 brothers, J. Roy, Robert, A. Ray, and Ralph Mellott and 3 sisters, Olive Kershner, Mae Secrist, and Helen Hawbaker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at St. Stephen's UCC of Upton with Reverends Denise Smelley and W. David Kent, MD officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters. Viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
