Harry H. Strait, Jr. Harry H. "Jigs" Strait, Jr., 91, formerly of Mercersburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 18, 2013, at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born February 19, 1922, at Mercersburg he was a son of the late Howard Harry, Sr., and Elmira Virginia Auld Strait. Early in his life he was a truck driver in Fulton County. He later was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot. He last worked for Poffenberger Bus Lines. He was a former member of First Church of God of Mercersburg where he sang with the male & mixed quartet. Also a former member of the Male Community Chorus of Chambersburg. Jigs served with the 57th Bomb Wing of the US Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He served in the European Theatre and his decorations & citations include Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 8 Bronze Service Stars. He enjoyed hunting, organic gardening, and he loved his children & grandchildren. Surviving family include his daughters, Connie E. & husband Richard Blair of Greencastle and Linda G. & husband Brian Taylor of Temperance, VA. 6 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Ryder Strait, who died December 10, 1998, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday July 23, 2013 at Guitner's Ebenezer United Brethren Church, Greencastle, with Pastor David Grove officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Viewing one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
