Valerie Stutts Obituary

Valerie Ann Marx Stutts, age 75, of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Berkley Springs, WV and Fairfax County, VA, died on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in her home. Born on December 3, 1934 in Chicago, IL, she was a daughter of the late Clifford G. and Eugenie Marie Peterson Marx.
Valerie graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1952, and from Indiana State University in 1956. A homemaker until her sons started school, she then went to work for Byrd Press (now Harper & Row) Publishing Company, and then as a legal assistant, a position from which she retired in 1990. Upon retirement, Valerie traveled extensively and was able to concentrate on her real passion of water color painting, which she inherited from her mother. She attended classes and workshops by noted artists, resulting in numerous awards. Her favorite subjects were landscapes from her time spent in West Virginia, sea shore images from Myrtle Beach, and fishing villages from Nova Scotia. An excellent cook, she was always trying new recipes. Some of her other interests included playing the piano and the Washington Redskins.
Valerie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry C. Stutts; two sons, Anthony L. Stutts of Ft. Worth, TX and Michael V. (and wife, Debra) Stutts of Hagerstown, MD; two grandchildren, Tera Lynn Johnson of San Antonio, TX and Kenneth G. Stutts of Ft. Worth; and one great grandson, Craig A. Johnson, of San Antonio.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, with Rev. James R. O'Brien officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 PM on Wednesday in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with a Rosary service beginning at 8 PM. A second viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday in the Helsley Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkley Springs, WV. A Rosary service follow at 8 PM, with Rev. Leonard Smith officiating.
