Mr. William C. Rock, 82, of 319 Park Street, Mont Alto, died Sunday morning, May 27, 2012, in his home. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born June 4, 1929, in Mont Alto, he was the son of the last Harold W. and Nora (Carbaugh) Rock. He lived most of his life in the Mont Alto area. He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1947. Mr. Rock served with the 176th Army Field Artillery, where he earned the Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. He and his wife of over 53 years, Ruth M. (Willison) Rock, were married on November 1, 1958 in Waynesboro. They have lived at their present residence since the marriage. As a young man Mr. Rock served his machinist trade at Frick Company and also worked at Landis Tool Company and Landis Machine Company, all of Waynesboro. For over eight years he worked for the Waynesboro Area School District. He was last employed by Penn State University, Mont Alto Campus, where he was a maintenance mechanic for 23 years. He retired on June 30, 1991. He was a member of the Waynesboro Bible Church, where he served many terms as a trustee. He also served on the missionary board and as secretary of the adult Sunday school class. Mr. Rock enjoyed working at his church and working at Camp Tohiglo in Mercersburg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William H. Rock and his wife Kimberly of Mont Alto; and two grandchildren, William R. Rock of Waynesboro and Alyson K. Rock of Mont Alto. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in The Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro, with Pastor Darell E. Gentry and Pastor Robert Fitz officiating. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the church.
