Joseph F. Newman Joseph F. Newman, 92, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his home in Fayetteville. He was born on November 23, 1921, in Waynesboro, PA, a son of the late Clark L. and Carrie G. (Gossert) Newman. Joseph graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an electrician on an LST in the South Pacific. He was a past commander of the Joe Stickell Post 15 American Legion in Waynesboro, and a member for 68 years. He enjoyed playing semi-pro football with the Waynesboro Tigers from 1947 to 1953. He retired from civil service after working 35-years at Letterkenny Army Depot. Joseph was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Fayetteville where he served as an usher and grounds keeper for many years. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pinochle, and frequenting local auctions with his wife of sixty-one years. He is survived by his wife Patricia L. (Hoover) Newman; a daughter Melodee L. Durff (Terry) of Chambersburg; two grandchildren Aimee (Durff) Line (Brent) of Naples, FL, and Jeremy J. Durff (Brittany) of Chambersburg; six great-grand children; one sister Betsy Gates of Waynesboro; one brother John Newman of Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ava Peters, Rhoda Newman, and Alice Phenice; and three brothers, Daniel Newman, Clark Newman, and Carl Newman. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. Arrangements by Auer Cremation Services of Pennsylvania Inc.
