Laura K. Gress Laura K. (Fisher) Gress, 96, of Waynesboro, died at 10:18 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, in her home. Born February 1, 1918, in Fort Loudon, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Anna M. (Myers) Fisher. She lived her early life in the Fort Loudon area. She and her husband, the late Philip Nathanial Gress, were married on June 11, 1938. They moved to Mount Airy Avenue in July 1939. Mr. Gress died on August 19, 1990. Mrs. Gress worked at the Waynesboro Knitting Mill as a machine operator and later at the Waynesboro Shoe Factory and the Emmitsburg Shoe Factory. She retired in 1973. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Waynesboro, where she was a member of the King's Daughter Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gress enjoyed lunch at The Parlor House, knitting, and shopping with her friends. She is survived by one son, Richard E. Gress of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Laura Gress, Richard Gress, Jamie Gress, Timothy Gress, Jason Gress, and Michael Gress; several great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John P. Gress, who died on May 14, 2010; one infant great-grandson, Gabriel Simmers Gress; two sisters, Margaret Rosenberry and Gladys March; and one brother, Howard Fisher. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Jesse Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, in the funeral home.
