Philip Stoltzfus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2017.

Philip D. Stoltzfus
August 10, 1954 - March 15, 2017
Chambersburg
Philip D. Stoltzfus, 62, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, after a month long battle of being ill. He fought COPD for many years. He received the Gift of Life thru Organ Donation. In 2010 he received a double lung transplant at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He had done well for close to seven years, but was listed at the Cleveland Clinic for a second double lung transplant, a little over a year ago.
Born August 10, 1954, in Honey Brook, he was a son of the late David Y. Stoltzfus and Ruth Mae Wiley Stoltzfus.
Phil was employed as a Ford Mechanic and Service Manager at Hal Lowry Ford for over 30 years. Phil then went to work at Interstate Ford in Shippensburg for a few years, until his disability caused him to retire. He was a man that loved racing, old cars, the sound of a good running engine, and the smell of the fuel they burn. He was a member of the Greenvillage Restaurant Cruz-In Car Shows; as well as many other car clubs, held online and locally. He loved the fellowship and friends he had made and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of Ford Vehicles with others. He was known for his Mustangs he built and would run locally at Mason Dixon Drag Strip and at Maple Grove Raceway. In his earlier years, Phil enjoyed motorcycles, golf, and hunting. The most important thing in his life was his love for his family, friends, faith, and Fords. He was a member of Salem United Brethren Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Keah Fields Stoltzfus; two children, Kellan P. Stoltzfus of Chambersburg, and Melissa J. Spoonhour (husband Matt) of Greencastle; four grandchildren, Hunter, Remington, Gauge, and Bow of Greencastle; one great-grandchild, Matthew Spoonhour; and two brothers, David Lee Stoltzfus of NC and Clifford Stoltzfus (wife Doris) of Stevens; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg PA, where Rev. Art Page will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 6 – 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Summit Pulmonary Associates, 601 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd., West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or Please consider being an Organ Donor that may save a few more lives; what a legacy you will be sharing with the Gift of Life to others. Dear Keah,

Our hearts are filled with both the love we have for your family and the grief that we share in learning of your loss. Whenever we were around Phil, he exuded so much warmth and a deep love for you and Kellan. We each have this little gleam of time in which to touch the lives of others. Phil's courage and incredible spirit touched so many and will live on; it speaks to the man he was, a remarkable husband, father and friend.

Our heartfelt sympathy,

To the Stolzfus family,
I have very distant memories of playing with my cousin, Philip, and a more recent memory of seeing him at the park near Bart's, I think, but that is probably 20 years ago. I am so sorry to read of his health struggle and of your loss. I will pray for your comfort and I extend deepest sympathy.

I never met Phil in person but knew him from our connection on a Ford hobbyist site. He was always quick to lend his expertise and assurance that I (we) could indeed repair our beloved Mustangs. I am deeply saddened by his passing as I have gotten to know him over the past decade and my life will have a irreplaceable emptiness now that he is gone. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. He was a great man and a great friend.

I remember Phil from Hal Lowery Ford, when I worked there many years ago. He was a very nice guy. And he could make things out of wood also. RIP Phil. Prayers to your loved ones.
