Benjamin Shives Obituary

Benjamin H. Shives, 87, of 9775 Upper Strasburg Road, Upper Strasburg, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born February 25, 1922 in Mercersburg, Franklin County; he was a son of the late Benjamin F. and Effie C. Rager Shives.
Benjamin retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and received the World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars. Mr. Shives was a life member of the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post # 46, Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. McFadden Shives who died July 17, 1999, and two sisters are also deceased.
Surviving is a son, Kenneth T. Shives and his wife, Donna, of Upper Strasburg, two grandchildren, Zachary Shives and his wife, Tangie, of Upper Strasburg, and Heather Impriano and her husband, Brad, of Newtown Square, four great grandchildren, a brother, Robert D. Shives and his companion, Becky Sowers, of Cove Gap, five sisters, Iva Seiders, of McConnellsburg, Ruth Barnhart, of Chambersburg, Jane Carty, of Greencastle, Betty Ernst, of East Waterford, and Rachel Gray, of Berkley Springs, WV.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. Ronald S. McElwee. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The viewing will be held Saturday one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
