Earl R. Harbaugh Obituary
Earl R. Harbaugh Mr. Earl R. Harbaugh, 92, of 9252 Rabbit Road South, Greencastle, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 in his home. Born July 28, 1921, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Guy S. and Ethel M. (Cordell) Harbaugh. He lived his early life and attended school in the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Harbaugh served as a corporal in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. During his time overseas he was a medical corpsman attached to the Radar Detection System 556 in Reykjavik, Iceland. He and his wife of over 64 years, Jennie A. (Fitz) Harbaugh, were married on October 16, 1948 in Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Harbaugh worked as a master carpenter for various companies and contractors in the local area. He retired in 1984. He was a member of St. Stephen's UCC in Upton, PA and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Harbaugh enjoyed woodworking, hunting, archery, and gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Bonnie Shockey and her husband, Ken of Greencastle, Linda McNew and her husband, Kermit of Chambersburg, Elaine Heffner and her husband, Steve of Greencastle, Guy Harbaugh and his wife, Linda of Greencastle, Betty Ryder and her husband, Rick of Greencastle, and Joann Ryder and her significant other, Michael Snyder of Hagerstown, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Woller of Greencastle; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Sue Harbaugh who died in 1954; and two brothers, Clarence Harbaugh and Paul Harbaugh. Services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. J. Denise Smelley officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202; or St. Stephen's UCC, 5441 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, PA 17225.
