Elden R. Leisher Elden Ray "Whitey" Leisher, 71, of Chambersburg passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Chambersburg Hospital. He was born February 5, 1942 in Chambersburg, the son of the late Robert and Hazel (Cockley) Leisher. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. A 1960 graduate of C.A.S.H.S., "Whitey" was a four year letterman in football, baseball, basketball and attended Virginia Tech on an athletic scholarship. As an Electronics Technician, he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1999. During Vietnam, he was on the aircraft carrier, F.D. R. Between Letterkenny and the U.S. Navy, "Whitey" served his country for 33 years. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. #600 Elks Lodge and several national softball associations, a lifetime member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post #1599 and a weekly volunteer for the Friends of Franklin County Legal Services. A "superfan" of Penn State Football, he loved all sports, be it watching, playing, or coaching them. He especially enjoyed coaching the baseball and basketball Chambersburg Youth Leagues. In addition to sports, he also loved to read and travel. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; two sons: Michael and Allen; three granddaughters: Meagan, Shannon, and Rebecca; two great grandchildren: Bentley and Malia; three brothers: Arnold, Robert and Eber; one sister: Ocie and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were four brothers: George, Merle, Harry and Mervin and two sisters: Hazel and Starr. The funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Nolder and the Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening. Doors will be open from 6-9 p.m. Honors will be presented by the Charles Nitterhouse Post #1599 Honor Guard on Wednesday.
