Charles A. Kadel, Sr. Charles "Charlie" A. Kadel Sr., age 87, went to be with his Lord January 15, 2014, with his loving family by his side. He was born April 1, 1926, in Chambersburg, PA to the late Edgar and Daisy (Shoemaker) Kadel. Charles was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot and Chambersburg School District. He attended Scotland School for Veterans Children and graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1945. Charles is survived by his wife, Betty (Miller) Kadel to whom he was married for 66 years. He is also survived by his children, Charles A. Kadel Jr., Deborah K. Weaver, Sandra K. Small, Michele L. Kadel and Michael E. Kadel; a brother, Howard Kadel; a sister, Chris Bemus; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a long time umpire and referee of various sports and was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame. Charlie was a member of Jr. Fire Department, a Life Member of Marine Corp, Chambersburg Club and BPOE 600 Elks Club where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, 1 sister and a granddaughter. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his church, 1st United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg, PA will be handling the arrangements.
