Ronald H Stankey Obituary
Ronald H. Stankey

Ronald H. Stankey, longtime resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, California -- who dedicated much of his time, passion and energy through the years for the betterment of the Peninsula -- passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas on February 11th, attended to by several family members. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 2, 1929 to Lillian and Harry Stankey, Ron is survived by his sister Pat and her family, and the love of Ron's life, Mary Catherine and their three children, Linda, Matt and John, along with their families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ron's penchant for service began at an early age when he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and served as Student Body President at Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan, where he was also once named Mayor of the Day. He served our nation in the Korean conflict and then went on to a successful career in the insurance industry, migrating to San Francisco, California in 1960 with Zurich American. Five years later, his career with Zurich took him to Los Angeles where he started his nearly 50-year residency in Palos Verdes. There he raised his young family with Mary Catherine, which included stints as Manager of "Mr. Stankey's Yankees" in Silver Spur Little League and as an AYSO soccer referee. He continued to remain active in Scouts with his son John and the Eagle rank has now been passed through three successive generations. Ron was frequently active behind the scenes in local political elections and provided insurance and other advisement to the community as President or Officer of many organizations, including the Community Association of the Peninsula and Rotary among others. At his parish, St. John Fisher, Ron was among the charter group of Lay Eucharistic Ministers that were installed, and he frequently ensured that SJF clergy would prevail in their golf matches with him...not for lack of trying.

A memorial service will take place at St. John Fisher Church at 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, on Saturday, February 17th at 1:00pm followed by Ron's favorite snacks and sweets. In lieu of flowers, Ron would appreciate your support of the at alz.org.
