Ann M. Jones Obituary
Ann M. Jones Ann M. Jones passed away at age 96 on August 23, 2018, at her home in Torrance, California, after a long struggle with cancer. Ann was born May 23, 1922 in Meadowlands, PA. She was the youngest of seven children of Andrej and Antonia Milavec. Andrej was a coal miner and Antonia managed the family farm, supporting the family through the depression. Ann was the first girl in her family to attend high school and she continued her education to become a registered nurse. In 1947, Ann married her soul mate, Charles E. Jones and they lived in Canonsberg, Pennsylvania before moving to California in 1955. Ann was a pioneer of her time by continuing to work as an RN while managing family life and raising her children. For more than 30 years, Ann worked first as an RN and later as an administrator at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, where she was recognized for being a champion for excellent patient care and fair treatment of employees. Besides Ann's successful career, she was a Girl Scout Leader, active in her church and, later, loved her avocation of babysitter for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is remembered for her daily power walk around her neighborhood that she continued into her 95th year. Upon retirement from nursing, Ann commenced 20 years of volunteer work for the Cancer Support Community of Redondo Beach, from which she finally retired at age 91. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Charles, who passed away in 1988, and by Charles Paddock, whom she loved as a son. She is survived by her daughters Sarah Jane Voss of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Charlotte Parker of Cypress, California and Jone Osborn of Manhattan Beach, California. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Plans for a memorial service are pending. Memorials may be made to the Manhattan Beach Community Church or FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (for improving the lives of persons affected by hereditary cancer).
