Brett Mendoza

Brett Mendoza of Redondo Beach, Calif., died March 10, 2018, at the age of 31.

Brett is survived by his parents, Dr. Rudy and Martha Mendoza of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; sister, Lauren of Ranchos Palos Verdes; and wife, Savannah.

Brett was born September 30, 1986, in Anaheim Hills, Calif. He graduated from Peninsula High School in 2005 and went on to play baseball for Loyola Marymount University, where he graduated with a degree in marketing in 2009.

In addition to his collegiate baseball career at LMU, Brett was an avid fan and played for youth teams in Rancho Palos Verdes, Peninsula High School, and professionally in independent leagues. He loved the position of catcher, and his nickname "Bulldog" indicates his passion for the game.

After retiring from active playing, he became an instructor in the South Bay and a coach at his alma mater, Peninsula High School.

He is remembered as a gregarious, loving young man with a beautiful, infectious smile.

A memorial service to celebrate Brett's life is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, with a reception to follow on the premises. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brett Mendoza Memorial Loyola Marymount University Baseball Scholarship Fund, care of Alma Vorst, 1 LMU Drive, Suite 2800, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
