Carole M. Rojo

1933 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Carole Raffaela Mancini Rojo. Mom was a long-time resident of Torrance; she and husband Rey were original owners of the first house they purchased 58 years ago. After a long battle with illnesses, God took her out of discomfort to join her beloved husband and parents Ottavio and Marie Mancini on Friday, November 23, 2018. Born in Mt. Vernon, New York in 1933, Mom was a proud Italian-American who understood that food was the best love language. In school she found a passion for classic literature and honed her grammarian skills writing poetry and stories. For fun she joined the local YWCA Club and met many of her closest friends. It was at a YWCA dance in 1954 that she met Rey, a handsome army soldier. She was almost too shy to dance with him but he wouldn't take no for an answer. They fell in love, married, and enjoyed 'cutting a rug' together for 62 years until his death. Mom truly believed that "a house is a building; a home is a family" and worked hard to create a loving home. As a member of St. James Church, she volunteered as Eucharistic minister and taught CCD and RCIA; as Team Mom she supported scores of budding AYSO and Little League athletes; as wife she 'kept the homefires burning' while Rey fought fires with the LAFD. She filled the house with homemade meals, ceramics she painted, and piles of books from the Henderson Library. After successfully raising their children, Mom found a second career for 26 years working for Redondo Beach City Hall in the Engineering and Permits Department. Upon retirement she was proud to receive a Service Award at a City Council Meeting for her years of dedication. She was a devoted mother to Sandra (Larry) Edgett, Rey (Aimee) Rojo, and Carla Rojo; a loving "Grammie and Punka" to Andi, Lee, Angela, Christina, Alexander, Anthony, and Catherine. Her warm hugs and singing are missed already. A Celebration of Life and Prayer Service is scheduled for Thursday, December 6 at 4:00pm at Rice Mortuary at 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance. Mom would ask that you bring a sweater and keep a clean tissue in your pocket! In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be made to the Parkinson's Foundation - Parkinson.org/tribute.Please sign the guestbook at dailybreeze.com/obits.
