Charles Wesley Keranen passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes on April 25, 2018 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife Kathy; sister Lynn Lauro; children Julie Apodaca, Mari Coppa (Carl) and Lori Charvet; grandchildren Randy Apodaca and Jaclyn Rose Coppa; and great granddaughter Aubrey Rose Apodaca; cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Irwin Keranen, his mother Ellen Holmes and brother Laurie Keranen. Charles ("Chuck") was born in Butte, Montana on December 16, 1931. He and his family came to California in 1945 where they made their home in San Pedro. Chuck graduated from San Pedro High School in 1950, he was a butcher by trade, served in the Air Force and the Marine Reserve. In 1956, Chuck became a Los Angeles Policeman and retired 20 years later. In 1971, while on the job and due to his courageous actions, Chuck received the Department's highest award "The Medal of Valor." Chuck was also a counselor for many years at San Pedro Community Hospital for Dr. Radar's Program. He was involved at the Beacon House San Pedro. He was an avid car buff over the years and belonged to the prestigious car club called LA Roadsters, where he also served as President from 2001-2003. There will be a viewing held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 between 5:00-7:00 PM at McNerney's Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with burial services to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
